Environmental concerns about carbon footprint emissions, depletion of fossil fuel supplies, steady growth in load demand, transmission losses, and the significant stress on the electric power system during peak load hours are driving us to employ renewable energy sources (RESs). The integration of RESs with the utility grid necessitates the use of power electronics-based converters and the corresponding control algorithms. Recently, the automotive industry has been looking into ways to minimise carbon footprints via the introduction of electric automobiles (EVs). More RESs may be added to the grid to meet the power requirements of EVs. Large penetrations of RESs, electric cars, and other nonlinear loads in the utility grid, on the other hand, pose serious stability, reliability, and power quality challenges that must be addressed.
